ADULT and SENIOR EYE EXAMS:

During an eye exam, we take the time to determine your visual needs.  Do you spend your days reading papers or a computer screen, driving, working outdoors, in a hospital setting, teaching children?  Do you spend your personal time on a bike, in the gym, woodworking, gardening, knitting or deep-frying doughnuts?  All of these activities ask different things of your visual system and have different safety considerations.  This means that your eye exam is curated to satisfy your visual needs.

In order to see clearly and comfortably, your eyes need to be healthy.  A detailed health assessment is always a large part of your annual eye examination.  This includes looking at the front and back of your eyes with a slit lamp biomicroscope, further internal evaluation of the retina using opthalmoscopes and measurement of intra-ocular pressure.  Dilating drops are typically needed. More advanced technology has become the norm- retinal imaging, optical coherence tomography (OCT) to look behind the retina, visual field testing etc allow us to provide advanced diagnosis, treatment and monitoring of many eye diseases.  Dry eye, macular degeneration, glaucoma, retinal disease and cataract are just some of the eye diseases we diagnose and manage.  Many eye conditions are linked to systemic conditions (high blood pressure, diabetes, heart disease, brain tumours, arthritis, etc etc) which means we are constantly communicating with both GP’s and medical specialists.  Did you know that sleep apnea increases the risk for glaucoma…and probably Alzheimers?

Comfortable vision requires good binocularity or eye-teaming.  Binocular vision deficits can be addressed with glasses, eye exercises or surgery.

Glasses are an important part of the ‘seeing clearly and comfortably’ equation. They need to look great- that is a given.  They also need to fit well and be properly adjusted.  The optics of your prescription are an important consideration in the ultimate success of your eyewear.  The myriad measurements must be accurate (this is not just the PD, as people so often assume) and the materials should be the best quality.  Our staff and doctors are happy to advise you and help you choose the best options for your eyewear needs.  We are passionate about sourcing great suppliers to make ‘Shopping Local’ easy for you.

We appreciate your confidence in us and your ongoing support of our small business.
